Sue,

This is a thread in the OpenVMS_Friends Yahoo group. Some guy is
trying
to sell a migration service to VMS folks. Migration to Microsoft and
Java. There were several, "You're joking" responses but I thought this
one was the best. What struck me is that the

VMScluster has been up for 7 years but the oldest hardware is only 3
years old. Now there is a good message.

Tom

David,

How can you possibly move mission-critical applications to Java or
Microsoft. Or is planned downtime no downtime (IBM method) ?

We managed an uptime of more then 7 years using a VMS cluster. This
is
only the way of doing this. In the meantime all the hardware is
replaced. The oldest hardware in the cluster is right now 3 years. The
harddrives where going from DAS to SAN etc. etc.

Where also multisite, and yes whe have experience whit powerloss at
one
site. No Unix and Windows was running because the 'dark site' or
'standby site' or how you want to call it had to startup. For de
powersupply this wil be seconds, but for the applications (databases)
this was hours, exclusive the gap in replication.
