Dear Distribution lists,

I wanted to forward this months Encompass Points along since there
are
some highlights in my opinion. First is the John Wisniewski scholarship
for the technology forum, if you remember John's passion for students
you will like this. Obviously the Technology Forum in New Orleans - You
can save $100, also there is a new Local User Group in Atlanta and
your
support of any LUG is appreciated, to see if there is a LUG in your area
please visit: http://www.encompassus.org/community/LUGS/

The VMS group has always been committed to supporting Encompass
via the
LUG's, the VMS SIG and the Encompass events.

Warm Regards,
Sue-Encompass member for years

HP AND ENCOMPASS COMMIT TO OpenVMS HOBBYIST LICENESE
PROGRAM
In 1997 at the DECUS Symposium in Cincinnati, the OpenVMS Hobbyist
Program began. Over eight years later, 40,662 license PAKs have been
generated and the program is still fulfilling its initial goal to
provide a low-cost solution for the VMS hobbyist who wants to learn
more
about VMS and use the VMS system for personal use. The license
included
in the Hobbyist program includes over 103 layered products including
compilers, WYSIWYG word processors, and the ability to cluster up to 96
OpenVMS systems together.

Both Encompass and HP have recently reaffirmed their commitment to
this
fantastic program. All current Encompass members and associates are
able
to obtain a license using their Encompass ID. For more information on
the program, please visit http://www.openvmshobbyist.com.

CONNX SOLUTIONS JOINS ENCOMPASS
CONNX Solutions is excited to become a member of the Encompass
community. Although CONNX is new to Encompass, they are not new to
OpenVMS! For over 11 years, CONNX Solutions has been providing
simplified data access to RMS and RDB databases. CONNX started as
an API
and is now a full featured SQL gateway that allows SQL standards
access
to OpenVMS data sources using common tools such as Access, Excel,
Crystal Reports and Cognos using ODBC, JDBC, OLE DB, and .NET

CONNX has evolved over the years to include connectivity to many other
relational and legacy database sources and is now a full Enterprise
Information Integration (EII) tool. CONNX also features their Data
Synchronization Tool that replicates and synchronizes back-end
databases
with a data target such as an operational data store, data mart, data
warehouse or staging tables. Using change data capture (CDC)
technology,
the Data Synchronization Tool allows users to schedule incremental
updates which greatly reduces batch windows and the load on system
resources.

According to Doug Wright, president of CONNX, "one of the most
popular
uses for CONNX recently has been the need to connect .NET and other
web
front-end applications with RMS databases. CONNX enables users to
extend
the life of their legacy system by using modern development and
reporting tools to access valuable data from mission-critical
applications."
