LightSand Teams with HP and Digital Networks to Demonstrate Oracle
9iRAC
Disaster Tolerant Solution Up To 2000 km

PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 2005--LightSand(R)
Communications, Inc., a company pioneering SAN connectivity and
routing
solutions, announced today that it has teamed up with Hewlett Packard
and Digital Networks to test Oracle 9iRAC in disaster tolerant
configurations over a variety of distances.

The objective was to monitor the behavior of Oracle 9iRAC with HP
OpenVMS clusters in disaster tolerant configurations, with distances
between nodes from 0 to 2000km (1242 mi). LightSand SAN extension
gateways allow the creation of widely geographically distributed,
disaster tolerant OpenVMS clusters. HP OpenVMS is known for its
remarkable resilience, disaster tolerance and high security. Oracle
9iRAC is one of the most popular databases for large enterprise
commercial operations. Digital Networks features powerful infrastructure
capabilities.

OpenVMS has the capability of delivering long-distance, disaster
tolerant cluster functionality and, thus, true business continuity among
remote locations. The goal of this ongoing proof of concept continues to
be the demonstration that Oracle 9iRAC, in conjunction with OpenVMS
and
sophisticated LightSand connectivity technology, can achieve necessary
levels of combined high availability and data preservation.

Although results are still preliminary, they demonstrate the promising
potential for Oracle 9iRAC to be deployed in a commercially functional,
truly disaster tolerant configuration, with Recovery Time Objective and
Recovery Point Objective levels approaching no transaction or data loss.
Results demonstrated full capability over distances up to 2000 km, and
practical functionality up to 1000km, far above the SEC recommendation
of 320km (200 miles).

"This is a considerable result for major database consolidation
initiatives over distance," said Richard Czech, CEO of LightSand. "Our
participation to such initiatives further demonstrates the ability of
LightSand to support the implementation of state of the art business
continuance and disaster recovery solutions in any environment. Such
solutions are only meaningful if distance is no longer an issue, and
LightSand provides unprecedented performances for SAN
interconnections
over any MAN/WAN."

The LightSand S-8100B gateway used for testing provides cluster-, IP-,
and Fibre Channel connectivity. In addition to FC SAN connectivity,
LightSand 8100 family switches support network connectivity for both
Layer 2 Ethernet, including non-IP Cluster SCS traffic, and Layer 3 IP
traffic over the same physical wide area interconnect.

About LightSand

LightSand offers a variety of products for increasing SAN connectivity,
both within the data center and over MAN/WAN networks. LightSand
SAN
extension gateways connect FICON or Fibre Channel with Ethernet
Layer 2
over distance using IP, SONET/SDH, DWDM and dedicated fiber. The
company's revolutionary AR/DAT technology allows these gateways to
function as FC routers, enabling the segmentation of SANs into
autonomous regions, and providing reliable interconnections between
heterogeneous multi-vendor SAN fabrics. LightSand is a privately held
company headquartered in Plano, TX.
