Dear VMS Community, It is my pleasure to provide you with the latest copy of the OpenVMS Update. This email contains so much good information I hardly know where to start. I think the first thing is. Please please, if you have interest in Linux on Blades, sign up as soon as possible for the web cast being held next week. This is the third in the series that Connect and HP are jointly doing (VMS is next month). For February were able to get an excellent speaker around Linux and you will really like him (Bdale Garbee) . Please keep in mind that seating is limited so only sign up if you are serious. As a side note, it is not fair to others if you sign up and then do not show up. I have added a new highlight called â01Cnot to be missedâ01D if you have ever seen me speak in public these are the things that you should copy/print/forward to your manager. As a reminder, this is not a formal newsletter, it is just an email between friends so it may not be perfect, but the URLâ019s do work. The same is true with the jobs I have nothing to do with hiring people, folks just send me openings and I send them out. My apologies for the length of this email and if you receive it more than once. The kit would be made available at the HP OpenVMS CIFS web site: http://h71000.www7.hp.com/network/CIFS_for_Samba.html HP CIFS V1.1 ECO1 for OpenVMS contains additional features, bug fixes, PDC migration support and improvements compared to HP CIFS V1.1 for OpenVMS. The features that would be newly available in HP CIFS V1.1 ECO1 for OpenVMS are: 1. CONTROL flag support: a. When security is set on a file from Windows system, full permissions would now be mapped to READ+WRITE+EXECUTE+DELETE+CONTROL permission for that ACE on the OpenVMS system b. Windows "Take Ownership" and "Change permission" would now be mapped to CONTROL on OpenVMS system c. A normal user who has full permissions on a file/folder would now be able to grant permissions to other users/groups for that particular file/folder 2. Administrators would be allowed to modify the owner of file/folder by changing the ownership to either a Windows domain-user/-group or CIFS-user/-group 3. CIFS now would support reading sequential files with record formats of Fixed Length, Undefined, as well as files with Indexed file organization 4. The feature that allows CIFS to create files in a Stream_LF record format (rather than the default Stream record format) would now be controlled by the new SMB.CONF share level parameter "vms rms format". Earlier, this feature was controlled using the "vfs objects" parameter with a value of "streamlf". The default value for "vms rms format" parameter is "stream". To create files with a Stream_LF record format specifying the following line in the share stanza of the SMB.CONF file for the applicable share would be required: vms rms format = streamlf. Note that the parameter "vfs objects = varvfc" would need to be compulsorily added either for each share definiton or in the [global] section of the SMB.CONF file. 5. Creation of SMBD process dumps in a single directory: HP CIFS V1.1 ECO1 for OpenVMS would provide a logical SAMBA$PROCDMP which can be defined system-wide. After the abnormal termination of the SMBD process, the SMBD process dump will be created in the directory pointed by this logical 6. SMBSTATUS would allow the ability to display node specific CIFS information by using the option --nodename=<nodename> 7. CIFS now would support Advanced Server for OpenVMS PDC to HP CIFS for OpenVMS migration using the net rpc vampire utility 8. CIFS now would support Windows 2008 Server NOTE: Please contact HP Customer Support Centres to obtain the latest CRTL image for correctly supporting VFC format with attributes 'Print file carriage control' and 'Fortran'. We recommend that customers migrate to CIFS and utilize its benefits. The following whitepaper provides details for migration from Advanced Server for OpenVMS to OpenVMS Common Internet File System - http://h71028.www7.hp.com/ERC/downloads/4AA2-1611ENW.pdf Thank you for your interest in HP OpenVMS Common Internet File System (CIFS). As always, we appreciate your support so that we may provide you with the latest technologies. With Warm Regards, Ankit OpenVMS Business Manager on behalf of the worldwide CIFS team---------------------------------------------------------------- 4.3 Open Source Middleware projects on OpenVMS Open Source Middleware projects on OpenVMS â013 http://www.johndapps.com/ We would welcome additional members to our little team, be it testers, developers, writers, moral supporters, you name it! 5.0 OpenVMS Partners 5.1 Brilliant Systems pleased to announce the release of Quintara V1.7-1 Brilliant Systems is pleased to announce the release of Quintara V1.7-1 for OpenVMS Integrity and Alphaserver platforms.
