'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the floor
Bug testers were busy, all looking for more;
The systems were humming, tests running with care
In hopes that 8.2 readiness soon would be there;

The engineers were restless while snug in their beds
While visions of code changes danced in their heads;
And Ann in her office and Chris in the lab
Had just sprung for pizza, oh my what a tab.

When out in lab there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.
Away down the hall I flew like a flash
Ran right to the Husdvedt, a 50 yard dash.

The QTV team had braved the new fallen snow
Many tests to run, as all of us know.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
A show stopper bug fix, we all shed a tear.

Some new IO driver, so lively and quick
Now worked per the SPD, no workaround tricks;
Ship dates were was approaching, LePage in the end game
He whistled and shouted and called them by name.

Now TCP/IP, now Clusters, now Java, now Monitor
On OpenView, on  Fortran,  on LAN Failover;
Fix those last bugs, make the quality call!
Our mission critical customers are trusting us all!

As the dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
The savy VMS team, releases they knew
Ran hospitals, banks, and stock exchanges too.

Doc was ready, just passed final proof
Ambassador excitement was going through the roof;
Field Test customers said the code was sound
Even Vivian was coming around.

Performance was solid, nice numbers to toot,
Not always the case, like right after the boot;
Up to eight-way systems, mixed clusters to start
Commodity pricing, be still my heart! 

Recompile, relink, ISVs are quite merry
800 committed, a good start, VERY;
FastTrack helps partners and customers so
Their applications are tuned and ready to go.

What's this, do we see Paul gnashing his teeth?
One last show stopper, QTV does bequeath.
The testing we run is very complex,
What's causing the problem, too many suspects.

Clair in his office, manuals down from the shelf
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, 
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

Three plus years in the making, incredible work
Port to a third architecture, quite a perk;
The teamwork, the passion is so grandiose
And everyone knows, 8.2 is so close.

But ship, not today, our standards not met
The schedule moves a bit, but don't fret;
A few weeks to get the VMS quality right
