Subject: Turin Polytechnique curse plan

Hello,

As promised, here is the plan of the "IT Installation" course which will
start at the Turin Polytechnique (http://www.polito.it/index.en.html) in
the next academic year.

It is divided in two levels of depth (for PhD students and for the
others), and has been sponsored directly by the Polytechnique vice
Chancellor (prof. Marco Mezzalama). The content has been decided by
the
teacher themselves: we were not involved in that.

I'm sure you will appreciate it, as well as the Polytechnique appreciate
our help so much to have this structure so HP (and OpenVMS)
centered.

These information can be made PUBLIC, and when the offical courses
booklet will be ready, I'll send you copies (sorry, it will be in
Italian only).

Best regards,
Massimo Belloni

Politecnico di Torino- IT Installations Course

Main Goals
This module introduces the student to specific problems of IT
Installations, analysis and sizing techniques for server systems under
different types of high workload.
This module will give an introduction to server architectures and
multiprocessor systems. It will focus on cluster systems and shared
filesystem problems, introducing "Mission Critical" and "Business
Continuity" concepts. Some issues to be kept in mind when sizing and
managing Data Centers will be analyzed.
Different types of installations will be considered during exercises in
classroom, laboratory and data centers: from number crunching to I/O
intensive with references to real cases.
