MAY 11, 2004 (COMPUTERWORLD) - Southeastern Freight Lines Inc. is
harnessing the power of WRQ Inc.'s host access and integration
products
to help power its IT infrastructure.
Lexington, S.C.-based Southeastern has turned to Seattle-based WRQ
to
Web-enable and automate its application for managing billing, claims
and
ticketing transactions, the companies said in a statement.

Using WRQ Reflection and Verastream, WRQ's legacy integration
product,
Southeastern customers and employees will have enhanced access to
the
company's mission-critical data, improving the management of its
high-volume, transaction-based operations, the companies said.

Announced yesterday, the latest version of the Reflection line -- WRQ's
products for Windows, Web and PC X server host access -- is designed
for
administrators, developers and end users who need to manage and
work
securely and effectively with host systems and the data and
applications
stored on them.

"This new release focuses around maximizing host systems and
minimizing
the costs around them," said Shaun Wolfe, president of Seattle-based
WRQ. "In the late '90s, there was a customer perception that they had
to
get away from their host's systems. But today we hear customers say
someday they'll get off their mainframes. ... In the meantime, they need
to get the most out of them they can, and they need to do it in a way
that is secure and, most importantly, at a lower cost."

Wolfe said the latest version of Reflection focuses on three
components:

Security, by providing support for IBM, Unix, Linux and OpenVMS security
specifications (SSL/TLS, Secure Shell and Kerberos); a patent-pending
Secure Token Authorization feature; and built-in, integrated security to
protect both Web- and Windows-based sessions.

Management, by maximizing IT flexibility and control via centralized
deployment, configuration, metering and migration capabilities.

And customization, by supporting Microsoft VBA 6.4 and including a
Java-based application programming interface. That allows
organizations
to leverage existing IT assets and skills to customize and automate
routine tasks.
A longtime WRQ customer, Southeastern said it turned to the company
to
solve its emulation and integration challenges and to capitalize on the
capabilities offered by the Web.

"Southeastern is a largely OpenVMS environment, and they have no
plans
to get off their host systems, but they needed to be able to extend
them
out to all types of users in different ways that the host applications
weren't designed for," Wolfe said.

Dave Robinson, vice president of MIS at Southeastern, said the
company
wanted to upgrade its applications.

"We're basically a mainframe Cobol type shop. With this new project,
we
wanted to 'GUI-tize' the applications and present them more in a
common
environment," he said. "Users were used to PC applications, but then
they had to go to terminal-type applications for the mainframes. We
wanted to have one presentation for both applications."
