University of California, Riverside gets Grade A job scheduling from
EnterpriseSCHEDULE
The University of California, Riverside (UCR) is the fastest growing and
most ethnically diverse of the 10 campuses of the University of
California. As a major research university, UCR offers an exceptional
environment for both undergraduate and graduate students interested
in a supportive, collegial learning environment with nationally and
internationally recognized faculty dedicated to the highest standards in
research, teaching and public service.
UCR Systems Administrator Bob Ayers recently sat down with ISE to
discuss how many of the operations in the Data Center of UCR have
been automated using ISE EnterpriseSCHEDULE. Bob has been the
primary administrator of the OpenVMS operations for several years and
uses EnterpriseSCHEDULE to schedule the majority of database
operations including exports and reports, system backups and overall
system maintenance.
Administering a total of about 40 databases, Bob saves massive
amounts of time and energy by letting EnterpriseSCHEDULE do many of
the tasks he normally would have to do manually. He estimates he runs
about 150 jobs a day. These jobs include the exporting of vast
amounts of University financial, budgeting and funding data from RDB
and Oracle databases. Bob commented, "One of the beauties of
EnterpriseSCHEDULE is that jobs are all timed to perform these tasks.
You never have to think about it."
Bob recently began working with the EnterpriseSCHEDULE Windows
Client Interface connected to his OpenVMS job server. He found the
interface to be "very nice" and commented that he liked the "visual
elements" that are added to job scheduling. He also likes using the
command line interface that he's used to, especially from home where
he can quickly fire off a job from a command prompt. "That's the nice
thing about it" he noted, "you can use either one".
When asked to describe his overall experiences with
EnterpriseSCHEDULE, Bob said that it's "really nice". He said, "its
reliability has been a real boon to us". He also found the command line
and Windows Client interfaces both "easy to use". Finally he summed
up his use of the software with: "It's a great product and it's always
reliable".
"One of the beauties of EnterpriseSCHEDULE is that jobs are all timed
to perform these tasks. You never have to think about it."

PRESS RELEASE
Mimer SQL First DBMS on OpenVMS 64-bit HP Integrity servers
Uppsala, Sweden -January 26 2005 - Mimer Information Technology
today announced the availability of Mimer SQL for the OpenVMS
operating system on HP Integrity servers based on Intel® Itanium® 2
processors. Mimer SQL is the first relational database management
system available for this platform. This enables OpenVMS users to
utilize the performance and scalability of the new HP Integrity server
platform for their mission-critical database applications.
Mimer SQL is currently used in many mission critical systems running HP
OpenVMS on AlphaServer systems worldwide. By extending Mimer's
support for OpenVMS to the HP Integrity server family, customers will
benefit from a high performance and zero maintenance DBMS on this
new platform. The compatibility in Mimer SQL between HP AlphaServer
systems and Integrity servers makes it possible to migrate Mimer SQL
database applications for OpenVMS from AlphaServer systems to
Integrity servers without any application modifications.
"OpenVMS is a very important platform for Mimer, and we're very
pleased to announce the availability of Mimer SQL as the first relational
DBMS on the new HP OpenVMS Integrity server platform," says Stefan
Eck, Product Manager, Mimer Information Technology. "We're convinced
that Mimer SQL on OpenVMS on HP Integrity servers will be a very
successful product combination on the market. Our close relationship
with HP will increase the market potential even further," concludes
Stefan Eck.
"We are delighted that Mimer Information Technology has
strengthened its commitment to OpenVMS with this announcement,"
says Mark Gorham, vice president of the OpenVMS Systems Division at
HP. "Expanding the scope of the Mimer database, now successfully
deployed in many of the vertical markets that benefit from the
strengths of OpenVMS, should deliver enhanced value to our customers
that are implementing OpenVMS on HP Integrity servers."
Developer and evaluation versions of Mimer SQL 9.2 for all platforms,
including HP OpenVMS for AlphaServer systems, are available for free
download from Mimer's developer web site
(http://developer.mimer.com/). The developer and evaluation version of
Mimer SQL for OpenVMS on HP Integrity servers is planned to be
