-------------------------------
I was tasked to produce a program which allowed the use of a thin-
client
touch screen device to run a program which was based in windows to
give
a clean GUI for presentation purposes. But needed to interface with
OpenVMS for all of the existing business logic and access to the core
data.

All of our software is bespoke and written in HP Basic and I didn't want
to think about dropping all of the benefits from OpenVMS and possibly
re-writing a lot of software just for a GUI, initially I was using
Apache
(VMS) web server to send/receive data but after a few tests there was
a
conservable delay.

After a lot of research I came across HP-Bridgeworks which said it could
'wrap' my existing applications (written in Basic/DCL) we had developed
into a format Visual Basic could understand. I thought this was a very
tall order and had my doubts this would work because no one I had
spoke
to about this project knew of a product that would do this!!!. After a
few hours I finally got Visual Basic. NET to communicate through
Bridgeworks to my VMS application.

After learning how BridgeWorks 'Works' it has decreased my
development
time for my new Windows applications dramatically. It has made
communication to VMS virtually transparent, you would think I was
accessing another Windows server!

The environment I am using Bridgeworks in is Windows Server 2003
with
Terminal Services & Developing with Visual Basic. NET.
