2) THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
It's a good idea to always check the "what's new" which is a page off
the OpenVMS Home page at least once a week "" since Warren Sander
is
updating the web site all the time
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/ .

The second best web site to visit on a regular basis is

Ken Farmer also updates this everyday

3) Training Update

You have not heard much from BRUDEN lately, as we have been
extremely
busy developing and delivering leading edge courses for HP OpenVMS
Engineering and support personnel. In the past two months we
completed
and successfully piloted the following courses:

	* OpenVMS V8.2 Technical Update

	* OpenVMS V8.2 Internals Differences

	* OpenVMS Crash Dump Analysis for Integrity Servers

These courses are currently available for HP OpenVMS Engineers,
Support
Personnel, and Ambassadors. We are working with HP to make these
courses
available to partners and customers.

BRUDEN would like to extend its utmost appreciation and gratitude to
the
fine Engineers from OpenVMS that did such a phenomenal job with the
Itanium port. At the internals level, you see how seamlessly the code
ported, through the great efforts of OpenVMS Engineering. Our own
privileged applications, which we use for course examples and as
consulting support, for the most part simply required a recompile and
relink. Engineering continues to breathe life into the best, most
secure, and highly available system on the planet. Beyond the port,
many
new and exciting features were added to enhance the OpenVMS
experience.

BRUDEN provides the standard HP training curriculum, as an authorized
independent training partner. We also provide BRUDEN developed
courses
on topics outside of the standard curriculum and consulting and porting
services. We are currently providing HP with a blended approach of
consulting support and short courses on specialized topics in the Tru64
UNIX operating system.

You will not see BRUDEN advertising beyond our web page, as we
choose to
invest in hardware for the best classroom experience possible. BRUDEN
owns 15 Itanium systems to enhance the lab experience of our
OpenVMS,
HP-UX, and Linux customers.

We also believe that the reduced rates you receive when signing up
through BRUDEN are probably more valuable to you than print
advertising.

If you have any questions about BRUDEN, please contact Bruce Ellis at
Bruce.Ellis at BRUDEN.com or by telephone at (719) 531-6127

The following are a few comments from the course pilots:

V8.2 Technical Update

Bruce Ellis is EXCELLENT!! Lots of skills, But also a very good
instructor.

Extremely knowledgeable instructor

The demonstrations and examples will greatly assist my capability to
support our customers in the I64 VMS space

Bruce is always well prepared, with great course material, and always
delivers an excellent course. This one is no exception!

Content very good. Would like more access to lab systems.

I had a small problem in finding a way to do the console part of the
labs (no system available) but it was promptly solved by Bruce ELLIS
(thanks, Bruce). The content of the course was extremely clear and
understandable. Not an easy thing to do on such a subject, I must add.
Thanks again for this too, Bruce.

The instructor/vendor, Bruce Ellis/Bruden Corporation, is by far the
best source of OpenVMS training in the country. All OpenVMS courses
from
this vendor should be made available to HP employees who support
OpenVMS. ... courses offered by Bruden are, by far, better and more
beneficial to HP support personnel than anything offered internally.

V8.2 Internals Differences

Itanium Console was most useful.
He explained complex concepts well and demonstrated his experience in
the subject. Examples were exceptionally well done. Keep it the same.
He
presented the material well.

OpenVMS Crash Dump Analysis for Integrity Servers

Every lab and crash dump whether real or contrived was excellent and
relevant to each particular topic/subject matter. Very well done!!

>From his style, demeanor, and presentations, everything was done well.
His knowledge and experience of older architectures (VAX, Alpha) were
excellent referral points when compared to IA64/Itanium.

This is only the second time in over 30 years at Digital, Compaq, and HP
that I have rated a course Excellent/strongly agree. I can't think of
anything to improve.

All labs were relevant and the lab guide solution easy to work through.

Very knowledgeable on all aspects of the course and VMS Internals and
Itanium Architecture.

Excellent knowledge of internals and dump analysis.

Made it interesting, provided many other tidbits of information that
helped me learn a lot more about Alpha dumps plus Alpha and I64
Internals.

I learned a lot more than I would have imagined.

This was the best course I've taken in 27 years at Digital/Compaq/HP.

Explained the material.

Gave background to the crash dumps.

Helped put the material into an understandable context.

Articulate and extremely knowledgeable. Able to deliver content for all
levels.

How do you improve Bruce? Answers every question and explains items
as
far as they go.

Thanks for a great course. The Student Guides, with all my notes, will
now become my Itanium dump bible. And, having gone through a bunch
of
dumps will make it pretty familiar when I have to deal with a real one.

I'm so glad you're still doing the VMS courses. You're a tremendous VMS
resource. There's hardly anybody I know who has your depth and
breadth,
let alone the ability to convey it, and to have fun doing it.
