Press Release: Automated FISMA Assessment on OpenVMS

June 27, 2005, Cambridge, Massachusetts

The latest release of LJK/Security(tm) has added new tests along with
specific preconfigured policies to match the technical controls
specified in NIST Special Publication 800-53. In fulfillment of the
Federal Information Security Management Act, the 800-53 controls
are recommended for US Federal Government systems during 2005,
and are scheduled to become mandatory for those systems with the
publication of FIPS 200 in December 2005.

Centralized Reporting

LJK/Security provides centralized reporting of security controls that
are in violation of policy, so staff at distributed sites are not
involved
in the assessment process after the software installation is completed.

Even the individuals performing the assessment from a central
location do not need system administration privileges, so the
assessment process itself complies fully with 800-53 controls AC-5
(Separation of Duties) and AC-6 (Least Privilege). LJK/Security
assessments can be run automatically according to an organization's
own schedule, for instance assessing file protections once a day and
user authorization data once an hour. This provides an easy way to
comply with 800-53 control CA-7 (Continuous Monitoring).

Summary According to 800-53 Controls

In addition to detailed information about each individual test
violation,
the preconfigured policies provide for numeric summaries according
to the 800-53 control numbers, giving the total number of violations
for each technical control. Private sector organizations who perform
security assessments according to some other set of rules can create
their own policy, designating tests according to that other set of rules

for the same summary capability according to language of their rule
document.

LJK/Security V2.9 with the FISMA reporting features is available now

5. From our partners

The following was received from Networking Dynamics this week (in a
much
nicer format)
 http://www.networkingdynamics.com/
Diskeeper operates completely automatically, with no attention from the
System Manager. Just "Set It and Forget It."

* INDEXKEEPER - a safe, fast method for defragmenting the
INDEXF.SYS file on each disk.
* Supports versions 5.4 to 7.3 of OpenVMS and versions 6.1 to 7.3
on Alpha. Interested in a version for OpenVMS V8.2 on Itanium? Call
now.
* Diskeeper operates on live disks, while users are accessing
files. Diskeeper is completely safe, and is guaranteed not to corrupt
files or data.
* Diskeeper defragments all kinds of disks and disk
configurations.
* Diskeeper uses minimal system resources, ensuring that there is
no detrimental performance impact from defragmentation.
* Diskeeper automatically adjusts the frequency of
defragmentation service to fit the level of fragmentation on your disks.

* Diskeeper arranges files for better free space consolidation.
* Diskeeper never poses an access conflict between the
defragmenter and users.
* Diskeeper can operate completely automatically, it is flexible,
and defragmentation can be better adjusted for the disk needs, from
scheduling to the defragmentation job itself.
