4.0 Sues' Fav's

An updated OpenVMS Hobbyist Alpha Kit based on OpenVMS V8.3 is now available. Lots more products than the previous version, as there is now 700Mb on the CD (was 650Mb) and some of the kits have been zipped up to use space more efficiently.
Besides just more compilers, we've also included DECset and the Compaq Secure Web Browser, so you should have everything you need to easily download and develop software on your home OpenVMS Alpha system.

The kit is orderable from the OpenVMS Hobbyist web site.

Software Resources International/Emulators International:

CHARON-VAX/3198 for OpenVMS Integrity is a new product in the CHARON family that creates a virtual VAX environment inside an Integrity system. It allows users of VAX-computers to move their VAX-software to an Integrity system running OpenVMS, without changing the original software. No migration effort, no risks due to changes, just replace the hardware platform. This new model virtualizes a VAX3100 model 98.

For more information, mail us on integrity at softresint.com , webpage : http://www.softresint.com/cvax3198/ or you may download the product description from this location: public at emulators1.iae.nl/cvax3198.pdf" target="_blank">ftp://public:public@emulators1.iae.nl/cvax3198.pdf

CockpitMgr for OpenVMS v7.2 is available now. CockpitMgr is the product that assists system managers to maximize the availability of the OpenVMS environment that is under their control. It monitors the entire OpenVMS base and attached devices to detect potential problems before they develop and threaten the operations. It provides a central event console with graphical status display, a console manager, monitoring of all OpenVMS systems and attached storage/network devices. CockpitMgr collects event data for analysis, alarming and reporting in order to support system managers to maximize the availability of the OpenVMS base under their control.

Version 7.2 adds job scheduling and configuration / change management to the existing capabilities. SSH support for the Console Manager connection has also been added.

CA would like to announce the recruitment process has started for the beta of CA Performance Management for OpenVMS r3.1. We are looking for beta sites on both ALPHA and I64 platforms. Clients who are using the Performance product and are interested in signing up for the beta can do so at:
http://supportconnectw.ca.com/public/beta/pmopenvms31/pmopenvms31beta.as
p(note you need to log into your supportconnect.ca.com account to reach the beta site)

This 3.1 release of CA Performance Management will bring all the new and exciting things we did in the 1st I64 release back to ALPHA along with new features on both ALPHA and I64.

This limited beta is filling up fast, so don't delay putting in your application.
If you have questions or need more information I can be reached at Robert.Puishys at ca.com

Looking for beta sites interested in using these features:
- Enterprise-Wide OpenVMS Performance Data Collection for Analysis.
Based on a user-defined schedule, the Data Collector agent on each OpenVMS system automatically collects and stores performance data. The Agent can generate a user-readable dump report to view all performance metrics.

- Expert Performance Tuning Advice. Using a knowledge-base of performance tuning rules, the Performance Manager analyzes the stored data. It identifies potential performance problems and provides conclusions and tuning recommendations, thus helping you keep your systems at peak performance. It also allows you to add or modify tuning rules, allowing you to easily customize the knowledge-base to meet the unique needs of your organization.

- Real-time Monitoring. Real-time monitoring of parameters such as CPU utilization, disk I/O per second, hard fault rate and CPU queue information allow identification and live diagnosis of performance problems, helping you to take corrective actions in real-time. In addition, you can analyze past performance data in "play back" mode to understand the sequence of events.

- Historical Performance Graphs. The Performance Manager provides a wide range of predefined graphs and charts, as well as the ability to build custom graphs according to your needs. These graphs provide you a better understanding of various resource utilizations and overall workload demands.

- Detailed Performance Reports. To assist in gauging the impact of changes in the system, various Performance Evaluation Reports are made available, providing you system statistics, I/O usage, summaries of disk and tape activity, CPU and memory usage and detailed information on all process activities.

- Ability to Export Performance Data. The Performance Manager allows you export performance data into formats such as Comma Separated Value (CSV), making the data available for analysis using applications such as Excel.

- Extended Graphic Support for MS Excel. To create a graph that displays more than six CPUs for a node, a method is now provided to extract the data and format it for easy viewing in MS Excel.

- Integration with CA Unicenter Network and Systems Management. CA Performance Management for OpenVMS offers out-of the-box integration with the CA Network and Systems Management Systems Performance for performance trend analysis, enabling you to quickly view patterns of activity and resource utilization for capacity planning and problem resolution.

- Additional Data in Cubes. CA Performance Management for OpenVMS r3.1 includes overall CPU Utilization and overall Memory Utilization in Performance cubes, enabling you to view this data by using CA Unicenter NSM Performance Trend.

- IPv6 Support. CA Performance Management for OpenVMS provides support for the IPv6 protocol for components that use TCP/IP to communicate, which includes the Performance Manager Real-time Display. In CA NSM for OpenVMS Integration, IPv6 support is provided for system monitoring using CA NSM Manager, and cube transfer to CA NSM Performance Trend.

- In addition, by porting the I64 r3 release to Alpha, the following enhancements are made on Alpha in this release:
* Enhanced data collection for Alpha servers
* New and enhanced performance tuning rules, reports and graphs
* Data collection and analysis of OpenVMS eXtended File Cache
(XFC)
* Support for a large number of disks (up to 4000 disks)
* Mixed architecture cluster support and the ability to analyze
HP Integrity, Alpha and VAX servers from a single Performance Advisor
