a small but nice story which happened to me just today. Normally all our

students and graduate students are mostly in favour of Windows or 
Linux.

  Today I found out that one of our graduate students was running VMS 
on

his WXP laptop. He used SimH for VAX emulation. And then he told me 
he 
is running an old VMS application to analyse experimental data. And just

not to be limited to the facilities at or institute he runs it on his 
laptop and can even do his evaluations at home!

Another side effect: SimH needs a Hobbyist license and therefore he 
became a member of our German DECUS users organisation. I was 
heading 
our german organisation for many years and we were always fighting 
to 
attract members but membership numbers were always decreasing. So 
I 
delightfully noticed that I had (without any advertising) a hidden DECUS

member in our group what I never expected.
